How do you qualify for an EV tax credit?
You can qualify for an EV tax credit when purchasing an EV. However, the total rebate that you can qualify for is not the same for everyone, and will depend on the following factors:
- The individual’s income
This is the amount owed in federal income tax.
This means that in order to qualify for a $7500 tax credit, your end-of-year tax bill should be more than the $7,500.
- The size of the electric car’s battery
The bigger the battery the higher the tax credit.

Key things to note when it comes to EV tax credit
- The EV tax credit does not last forever
When an electric car hits a higher number of sales (200,000 qualified electric vehicles) they are normally phased out.
This means that in the future when more people purchase EVs in the United States, the EV tax credit will no longer be available.

- Only the EV buyer qualifies for the tax credit
This means that the tax credit cannot be passed on to someone else other than the EV buyer.
