No doubt tires make a real range difference in your EV.
However, it can also be difficult to find the right tires that give you the best range and efficiency.
In this article, we will be giving you the best EV tires for range based on our own experiences and other EV owners.
But before that, it is important to take note of the following when determining good EV tires for range;
- From experience, you cannot determine the efficiency of new tires for the first 1000 miles.
That’s because over the years we noticed the tire’s efficiency is usually a bit lower when new.
We have been trying and testing different tires for EVs and one thing we noticed is that with newly installed tires that are less than 1000 miles, there was a range drop of up to about 12%.
However, after about 2000 miles, we noticed range improvement from 12 to about 5% for the same tires.
Of course, we factored in different things that affect range such as tire pressure, temperature/weather, A/C and so on.
For example, after we replaced stock Nexan tires on Kia Soul with Michelin Pilot Sport 4 ASRs, we immediately lost about 10% of range. But after doing over 2000 miles, the overall loss went from >10% to about 3%. |

- When it comes to the choice of tires for your EV, knowing precisely what you are looking to get from them is important because you will likely have to sacrifice one thing over the other.
For example, if you are looking for the best tires for range, you may have to sacrifice grip (Range vs handling) or may have to deal with road noise (no road noise vs range) and so on.
NOTE: The difference between low-noise and high-noise tires is huge.

Best EV tires for range
NOTE: This list is based on our tests on different EVs such as Tesla, Volkswagen ID.4, Nissan Leaf, Ford Mustang March-E e.t.c.
Additionally, range loss will vary depending on the Electric Vehicle (EV).
Best EV tires for range | Reasons/Why we recommend | |
1. | Michelin CrossClimate2 tires | We and most EV owners noticed close to no range difference ( <5% ) from these tires on different EVs. For example, on our Tesla Model 3, we noticed slightly less efficiency. We recommend these tires because in addition to minimal range loss, you get better handling, and the ride is quieter and smooth than most tires we’ve tested. |
2. | Michelin Energy Saver | These tires are a great option for people who are looking for efficiency. For example, we did not notice any range loss when on Nissan Leaf. |
3. | Goodyear Assurance tires | We noticed about a 5% range loss on these tires. However, we got a smoother and quieter ride on them. Therefore, the 5% range loss was worth it for us. |
4. | Continental Xtreme Contact | On Volkswagen ID.4 we did not experience any range loss. Additionally, most EV owners reported less/no significant range loss with these tires. |
