As you might already be aware, the battery is the primary component of electric vehicles.

It will hence cost you more to replace than most of the other EV parts.

Much like other EVs, Tesla batteries are very expensive to replace. However, Tesla is working to reduce the prices of its batteries in the future.

At the moment, you can have 99% of the Tesla battery replacement cost covered by either Tesla’s vehicle warranty or car insurance.

Note:
– Car insurance will only cover the cost of the battery if it was physically damaged by external factors outlined in their policy.

– Tesla will replace your battery under warranty only if the battery capacity goes below 70%.

Cheaper alternative to Tesla battery replacement

A cheaper alternative would be replacing your Tesla battery with a refurbished pack. However, this is not recommended for Models X and S.

But the refurbished battery will work well on Model 3 and Y.

How?

Normally, the EV battery pack does not die all at once to 100% but instead, it slowly degrades through individual cells.

With a refurbished battery, the cells that stopped working in the battery pack are replaced to improve the battery’s capacity.

This means that the refurbished battery will be cheaper than getting a new battery.
